Version 5 is a strong revision to a classic, important text. Here, and in many other text references, Dr. Creswell continues to present essential information in an understandable format to both researchers and research learners.

I had a choice, buy or not. I bought. I assessed. In my assessment, I concluded the loose leaf format is junk. It is useless for a long term reference. Will I keep a three ring binder around for years? No chance. I will go bind it at my cost, or get a revision 4. A loss either way.

Along with the loose leaf version comes the e-Text access card. Many, not me, prefer e-Texts, so this may be valuable. However, two problems.

1) The e-Text access card is good for only 180 days. One hundred eighty days is limited compared to the average master's or doctoral program. Pearson offers a solution a solution to get past the 180 days. Pay more. For a "low fee," I can upgrade to longer use.

2) Accessing the e-Text. Quite reasonably, I must register and log on. I tried. I carefully followed the steps to register online and input my secret code, name, address, etc. I input also my username and password. This pair was selected to be effective but was far from truly extraordinary. An error message came up indicating a problem with my username/password. I must enter another set. I did. I was then told two people were trying to log in using the same access code.

Of course this annoyance can be corrected. Pearson has a 24/7 chat line to help. But if online is part of the value statement for the package, and getting online is wasting my time, fix it. Now I will go and chat.

So. Dear Pearson. On some texts, loose leaf versions with "low fees" laden e-Texts may be fine. On a reference of this importance, this person's opinion is no. Find other ways to be cheaper, better. Presenting this solution has let down Dr. Creswell's hard work and the consumer's need.

Educational Research by 9788120343733 Books Reviews

This is no reflection on the content in the book, but on the digital format. There isn't a review option available for comments like this. The content is great, but I've grown very frustrated with the version. Really, it is a PDF document that is only viewable in a Reader. Cloud reader can't open it, so one has to resort to having an installed reader. So, this is a no-go for viewing it on computers without for PC installed. On a mobile phone, it is painful to have to pan to continue the sentence as the text doesn't fit to the screen and automatically wrap. The 2-device limit on the book is a major bummer especially since the Cloud reader won’t open it. When using the book for actual work at a computer, I have to use for PC. When reading only, I use my tablet. This leaves no remaining copies to read on another computer or mobile phone. The Cloud reader would have been the best option. On the plus side to the PDF format, the page numbers are consistent for citations. I realize that the PDF is a benefit to the publishes as they don’t have to take the time to create a true AWS format, but this is a huge inconvenience for the reader/client.
I bought this for a class. I didn't have to because there was a free online version but I hate trying to read online. I got the paperback version. Its great. Not to expensive and I can mark it up to my hearts content. I will be careful highlighting. Marker may go through. Pages are like a regular paperback book.
I like the information in the text. It is written in easy to understand terms, has a logical flow and is comprehensive. There are a two flaws that are driving me nuts, however.

First, there are at instances where the editing failed. For example, on page 317, "The identification of a target behavior--the outcome or dependent variable in the study is the dependent variable, and it is repeated measured and observed." Huh? Later on the same page "The researcher may introduce the baseline (A), then the intervention (B), and then the intervention (A), called a withdrawal design and notated as an A-B-A design." Baseline, intervention, intervention? That one sent me to Google to figure it out.

Yet, the most irritating flaw is the gray ink/print. The print is grayscale, not black, although there is an occasional page on which the ink is more saturated/deeper, but overall it seems faded to me. My eyes are straining a bit to read the print because it is not as dark as it should be so that the contrast between the print and the background is not crisp enough for me. It's as if the pages sat in the sun and have faded or as if they used as little ink as was possible. The pages are very thin as well not what would expect for a textbook - think loose leaf paper. Yes, this loose-leaf book is printed with faded ink on loose-leaf weight paper. It costs way too much money for this type of production.
This is actually a fantastic book to prepare for academic research or for a doctoral program. The reason I’m rating it so low is because the publisher will sell you the e-Book access code which gives you access to a digital form of the book, interactive activities, options to take notes, & test yourself, but unless you are in a class where the professor registers your course the digital functions are useless! I tried following the steps as a student and professor (to help my professor out) and it was not an easy process. I understand why my professor didn’t register her course. I wasted hours trying to access, register, & troubleshoot the registration process only to have people from Pearson & my university that there was NOTHING they could do for me even though I PAID for the digital access code. If you don’t care about digital access to this text then this is a GREAT book for you. If you are a strong reader & writer, you should be okay using this text in a mini term. I used it for a should’ve been 7 week term but due to hurricane Harvey was a 6 week 2 day term & it seemed like too much information. I wish I would’ve taken it as a full term course. If you are not a good writer, I recommend taking a full term course when using this book.
