This is a brief explanation of the 2016 Alta Standards for those who read and review our surveys. It is a full copy of the standards, and after most paragraphs I give a quick easy-to-understand version of what was really said in a laypersons language. This is meant to be a general overview of what we can and cannot do, but since the laws in each State vary the Alta will have to vary as well. This is meant for those looking for a better understanding of the Surveyors role, and the restrictions we have to operate under. It is not a legal guide, nor is it the final authority on what has to be on an Alta- but just by reading the Standards and quick explanations, the reader will have a lot more knowledge than many in the industry that use "Alta" as a buzzword.
